Listed below are the current courses that the HCTa oversee, starting at a Level 2 Introduction to the Heavy Clay Industry for those just starting out, through to a full degree in Minerals Management for those who wish to develop a deep technical knowledge of the processes and procedures within the industry.
Introduction to the Heavy Clay Industry – Level 2
This course is for anybody who wishes to get a general understanding of the basic technical knowledge from “Quarry to Lorry” of the processes involved in making Heavy Clay products.
Heavy Clay Technology – Level 3
Designed for Managers and Team Leaders working in manufacturing who wish to develop their technical knowledge of the process.
Clay Quarry Managers 8.1c & 8.1d - Advanced
This course equips delegates with the information and skills to manage geotechnical aspects of their work in quarries effectively.
Clay Quarry Managers 8.1c & 8.1d - Intermediate
The course provides a stepping-stone towards competence for anyone involved in Quarry Management.
Certificate of Credit Drying and Firing – The University of Derby
This course provides the learner with an underpinning knowledge of the techniques used to dry and fire Heavy Clay products.
University Diploma in Clay Studies – Level 5
Designed for anybody who wishes to get a detailed understanding of the technical knowledge required to manufacture Heavy Clay products, the course covers “Quarry to Lorry”.
Foundation Degree Clay Technology – Level 5
This course has the Diploma in Clay modules at its core, but also includes Maths, Engineering and Business. Ideal for those at the start of their career, or those who may wish to move on to a full degree.
Higher Apprenticeship in Mineral Product Technology – Level 5
A degree-level Apprenticeship that utilises the Levy, incorporating the Diploma in Clay modules, along with health & safety, Maths and Engineering.
Honour Degree “Top Up” Minerals Management – Level 6
An Honours Degree “management top up” from the technical Foundation Degree or Apprenticeship. Studying Commercial, Financial, and Operational Management.
